Support Engineer – Software Technical Support
Salary: £26,000 per annum

Location: Guildford, Surrey

Pole Star is a leading Enterprise Asset Management Software supplier. We pride ourselves on rapid development and delivery. Our asset management software includes modules ranging from equipment and asset registers, asset inspection and examination to maintenance, facilities and workforce management.

The Role:

The Support Engineer is a key role within a busy Support Team which answers emails and telephone enquiries or issue/problems from customers. The role involves proactively supporting the business on a day to day basis contributing to the future success and strategy of the business. You will attend and lead client meetings to discuss issues and design of new solutions, leading the meetings and following up with writing technical specifications and presenting new solutions. You will also build/configure systems that supports Pole Star. The role will report into the Operations Director and will also support other Senior Managers on projects within the business. You will work closely with other departments, such as the Development Team, to help achieve business objectives. You will also deputise for the Operations Director when he/she is not present.

Client Solution Configuration

  • Lead client design meetings to understand the requirements, suggesting options and solutions
  • Present solutions to clients
  • Design and document the processes
  • Configure solutions
  • Write the specification document
  • Verify solutions
  • Ensure solutions are tested with the Quality Assurance Team

Client Data Manipulation

  • Carry out Data Manipulation
  • Carry out Data Cleaning and Mapping
  • Carry out Data Import

Client Support (Phone/email)

  • Log support calls
  • Resolve customer login issues
  • Support customer processes
  • Support custom solutions
  • Onsite support (Occasional)
  • Update/create knowledge base
  • Create and publish documentation on word press and paper
  • Providing client training where appropriate

Client Adoption of Products and Systems

  • Write user guides
  • Customer Training (face to face and telephone training)
  • Producing Usage Reports

Required Skills

  • 3 Years’ relevant experience in a similar role within a support team at a computer software company or IT related business
  • Appropriate degree or HND in IT or business-related subject
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, proficient in Excel and data mapping
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent phone manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Optional Skills

  • Experience of using SQL

Aptitude

  • Structured, logical and analytical
  • Capable of writing good technical specifications and user guides
  • Lead design meetings with the client
  • Innovative and creative
  • Enjoy the process involved in grasping technical concepts
  • Be motivated by challenges

Reporting to our Softare Development Team Manager, you will be a smart forward thinker with a real passion for development. The day to day role will involve development, support, maintenance and implementation of software modules.

You will work with our existing development team, joining an established company looking to continue its growth and further reinforce its position as a market leader in its sector.

You will be involved in building and creating component solutions and data services from the requirements stage through to deployment. You must be self-motivated, innovative, thinks outside the box, have excellent communication skills and work with stakeholders from the business and technology with ease.

  • Writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
  • Writing attractive useable user interfaces
